Synopsis
John Wakefield, surnommé 'Ghost', dirige un orchestre de jazz et vagabonde de club en club afin de dénicher des contrats qui ne se révèlent que rarement gratifiants. Son seul succès est «La Ballade des sans-espoir», un blues qu'il joue à qui veut l'entendre. Dans un bar, il se lie avec Jess, une chanteuse. Mais leur histoire ne dure pas…
